How is AFL relevant to today’s lawyers and today’s economic challenges?

Trial lawyers use the word “relevance” to mean the tendency of a given item of evidence to prove or disprove one of the legal elements of the case, or to have probative value, which makes make one of the elements of the case more likely than not. But practically speaking, relevance means how pertinent, connected, or applicable something is in a given context. AFL is pertinent, connected, and applicable to the health and well-being of our profession because it is peer-reviewed. AFL's peer review process connects local lawyers in the public and private sectors to an institutional validation system. It is directly applicable to who we are, what we do, how we do it, and most importantly, how well we do it. If AFL were just another way of marketing one’s law practice, then many would question its value, especially in today’s economic climate. Our mission is both culturally and legally relevant because we are committed to more than just meeting current or past economic challenges. We intend to make a difference in how the rest of Arizona sees us, not so much in commercial terms, but as a validating source for excellence and choice.
